Christmas Door Decorating Gingerbread House

Make a gingerbread themed display to decorate your front porch for Christmas. Turn your house into a gingerbread house!

A front porch decorated for Christmas to look like a gingerbread house.

A few weeks ago I was browsing the Christmas section at Hobby Lobby and I kept seeing THE cutest candy and gingerbread themed decorations. It got my wheels turning and I decided to turn my front porch into a gingerbread house!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hobby Lobby for Hobby Lobby. All opinions are 100% mine.

Once I got the idea, I just had way too much fun with it. Let me walk you through how I did everything. Let's start with the supplies you'll need.

Gingerbread Porch Materials

  • Better Than Paper Bulletin Board Roll
  • White Duck Tape
  • Glue Gun + Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Peppermint Candy Swirl Pick
  • Peppermint Candy Spiral Pick
  • Giant Candy Canes
  • Red & White Large Lollipops
  • Tinsel Cupcake Pick
  • Small Plastic Candy Canes (the hearts above the door)
  • Yellow Large Lollipops
  • Pink Large Lollipops
  • Plaid Christmas Rug

I've included links to all of the items I could find online, but there is a much larger selection in-store. Here are a few photos I took while trying to decide exactly what I needed for my porch.

Seriously, this wasn't even everything. I told you they had TONS of cute stuff that would work for a gingerbread theme.

You can totally customize the way you do the candy part, but the one thing you definitely need is the special bulletin board paper to make all of the "frosting" borders. It's in the teacher section. I only bought one roll and I have leftovers. I think I might use the extras to add a cute detail around the concrete steps.

I cut the paper trim to look like dripping frosting and hot glued the candies to it before taking it outside. Most of the round candies I used were actually lollipops, I just ripped the sticks out.

I love, love, love the little candy cane hearts above the door, but they're hard to see in the photos… much cuter and more visible in real life. Watch the video below to see them a little better.

I attached all of the paper to the house using white duck tape. I wasn't sure it would work, but it totally did and it's still holding strong!

These cutie pie gingerbread people are so fun and I'm bummed that I can't find a link on the Hobby Lobby site. I guess you'll just have to go get them in-store! The legs are adjustable, so you can make them taller or shorter, which I thought was a cute feature and smart for storage later too.

Now let's dive into another favorite part of the porch… the peppermint and gingerbread wreath! Here are the materials I used:

Gingerbread Christmas Wreath Materials

  • Yarn Bee Chunky Knit Yarn
  • 15″ Foam Wreath Form
  • Soft Peppermint Candy Ornaments
  • Gingerbread Man Ornament
  • Snowflake Cookie Ornaments
  • Gingham Pom Pom Ribbon
  • Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks
  • Scissors

I created a separate video just about the wreath so you could see how it all came together, but it was a simple, three step process:

  1. Wrap a foam wreath form with chunky yarn and glue the ends in place.
  2. Cut all of the sticks, hooks and hangers off of the ornaments. Arrange them on the wreath and glue them into place.
  3. Add a cute bow and loop of ribbon for hanging.

Didn't the wreath just turn out so cute?! Gah! I love it!

I have to say, I'm just so tickled with my Christmas porch this year. It's just SO much fun! And I think I will be able to reuse everything again next year and maybe even add to it. Merry Christmas everyone!
